Glossary

The words these docs use, in plain English, each with a link to the page that explains it in full.

A

Abandoned

A cart with no activity for the abandonment cutoff and no order. Its recovery emails can now send. The Abandoned table labels this status Recoverable. See How Recovery Works.

Abandonment cutoff

How long a cart sits with no activity before it counts as abandoned: 15 minutes by default, set in Settings → General → Mark Cart as Abandoned After. See General Settings.

Abandonment Rate

Carts that became abandoned in a date range, divided by carts captured in it. Lower is better. See KPIs & Chart.

Action Scheduler

The background job runner built into WooCommerce. ShapedRecover's sweep and daily job run on it. See Requirements.

Activity

Any change to a cart or the shopper's email: adding or removing an item, changing a quantity, retyping the address. Browsing the shop isn't activity. See Cart Statuses.

Admin Notifications

A Pro feature: a digest email of recovered sales and abandoned carts for you and your staff. See Notification Settings.

Attribution

Deciding which sales your recovery emails get credit for. ShapedRecover credits an order only when it came through the recovery link, within 14 days of that email, and was paid. See Attribution & Audit.

Attribution window

The 14 days after an email is sent during which an order through its link can be credited. Fixed, and separate from how long the link works. See Within 14 days of the email.

Audit

The evidence behind one credited sale, opened with View Audit in Recovered Sales: the source cart, the email, the token and the window. See The audit.

Auto Apply Coupon

A campaign setting that applies the email's coupon for the shopper when they come back through the link. See Auto Apply Coupon.

Awaiting payment

An order placed through the recovery link that isn't paid yet, such as a bank transfer on hold. The cart stays open, its emails stop, and it's credited once paid. See Waiting for payment.

B

Background jobs

The work ShapedRecover does on a timer, without anyone clicking: the sweep every 5 minutes and the daily job at 03:00. They need WordPress's scheduled tasks to run. See Requirements.

Bulk actions

Actions on several carts at once from the bar above the Abandoned table, such as Send Next Email, Pause Emails and Mark as Lost. See Bulk Actions.

C

Campaign

One recovery email: its subject and message, its trigger and its delay, switched on or off. A cart's active campaigns send in order of delay. See Campaign List.

Captured

Saved by ShapedRecover for the first time. A cart is captured once the shopper has typed a valid email at checkout and kept the consent box ticked. A logged-in customer who has consented is captured as soon as the cart has an item. See Email Capture.

Cart abandoned

The trigger for a logged-in customer who left items in their cart without visiting the checkout. See Triggers & Timing.

Cart drawer

The panel that opens from View Details on a cart, with its timeline, shopper details, contents and actions. See Cart Drawer.

Checkout abandoned

The trigger for a shopper who reached the checkout, typed their email and left. It covers every guest and most carts. See Triggers & Timing.

The shopper's agreement to cart reminder emails, given with the checkbox at checkout. The box starts ticked; unticking it means nothing is saved. See Consent Checkbox.

Coupon cleanup

The scheduled job that deletes generated coupons once they've expired, or 7 days after they've been used. See Coupon Cleanup.

Credited

Counted as a recovered sale. A sale is credited at the moment an order placed through a recovery link becomes paid. See How Recovery Works.

D

Daily job

The background job that runs at 03:00 your site's time for housekeeping: coupon cleanup, removing old records and, with Pro, the weekly license re-check. See Requirements.

Delay

How long after a cart becomes abandoned a campaign's email sends, set in Send This Email After: 5 minutes to 90 days. See Triggers & Timing.

Delivery Check

A plain test message in Settings → Sending that shows whether your site can send email at all. See Delivery Check.

E

Existing coupon

A coupon you already have in WooCommerce, picked for a campaign with Use an existing coupon. Every shopper gets the same code, under its own rules. See Use an existing coupon.

F

Fallback

Text a merge tag uses when it has no value, written after a vertical bar: {{customer.first_name|there}}. See Fallbacks for missing details.

G

Generated coupon

A coupon ShapedRecover creates for one shopper when their email sends: locked to their email address and usable once. See Generate a new code.

I

In Recovery

The Dashboard KPI for the value of abandoned carts whose recovery is still under way. See KPIs & Chart.

L

Late-jobs notice

The warning Background jobs are running late… that appears on every ShapedRecover tab when the sweep is more than 15 minutes overdue. See When jobs run late.

License

The key that unlocks Pro's features on your site and brings updates and support. It's Active, Expired or Inactive. See License.

Lost

A cart with no order by the lost cutoff. No more emails are sent, though a paid order through an earlier link within its 14 days still counts. See Cart Statuses.

Lost cutoff

How long after abandonment a cart becomes Lost: 30 days by default, set in Settings → General → Mark Cart as Lost After. Every active campaign must send at least a day before it. See The lost cutoff.

M

Matched by

How a credited sale was linked to its recovery email. It's always Token, meaning the order came through the recovery link, never by email address alone. See Through the recovery link.

Merge tag

A placeholder in an email, such as {{customer.first_name}}, filled in with the shopper's real details when it sends. See Merge Tags.

N

Never Track

A Pro list of email addresses that are never tracked, logged in or not. Saving it deletes carts already stored for those addresses. See Never Track These Addresses.

O

Ordered

A cart whose shopper bought without the recovery link, whose order through the link failed or was cancelled before payment, or whose recovered order was later fully refunded, cancelled or failed. Emails stop, and the sale isn't credited. Shown in grey. See Recovered vs Ordered.

Overdue

An email skipped because a later email in the cart's sequence was due or had already gone. Only the latest of several overdue emails sends. See Overdue emails.

P

Paused

A cart whose emails are on hold until you resume it. It's not a status: the cart keeps its status (Shopping or Recoverable). See Paused is not a status.

Preheader

The grey preview text most inboxes show after the subject line. See Subject and preheader.

Pro badge

The crown and "Pro" label on features that need ShapedRecover Pro. They show locked in the free plugin, never hidden. See Free vs Pro.

R

Recoverable

How the Abandoned table labels an abandoned cart: one you can still win back. See All five statuses.

Recoverable Revenue

The Dashboard KPI for the value of every cart that became abandoned in a date range. See KPIs & Chart.

Recovered

A cart whose shopper paid for an order placed through the recovery link, within 14 days of that email. It counts in your recovered revenue. See How Recovery Works.

Recovered Revenue

The total of every credited order in a date range, less partial refunds. The same figure on the Dashboard and in Reports. See Recovered Sales.

The personal link in every recovery email that rebuilds the shopper's cart and marks their visit so the order can be credited. See Recovery Link.

Recovery Progress

The timeline in the cart drawer: every email scheduled, sent, skipped or failed, every click and the order. See Recovery Progress.

Recovery Rate

Of the carts that became abandoned in a date range, the share that are now Recovered. See Recovery Rate.

Recovery Stage

The column in the Abandoned table that says what happens next for a cart: the next email, how many have gone, or why nothing is scheduled. See Recovery Stage.

Restart Recovery

A bulk action that makes a Lost cart Recoverable again and reschedules the emails it never received. See Restarting a lost cart.

Retention

How long finished carts and their send history are kept before the daily clear-out removes them: 90 and 180 days by default. Recovered carts are anonymised, not deleted. See Data & Storage Settings.

Revenue per Message

Recovered revenue divided by every recovery email sent in the range. A rough measure of what each email is worth. See Recovered Sales.

S

Send history

ShapedRecover's record of every recovery email: scheduled, sent, skipped or failed. Test emails aren't stored. See Data & Storage Settings.

Shopping

A captured cart whose shopper is still active, inside the abandonment cutoff. No email is due yet. See All five statuses.

Skipped

An email dropped for good because a check right before sending failed: the shopper ordered or unsubscribed, the campaign was off, and so on. The timeline gives the reason. See Why an email was skipped.

Starter campaigns

The three campaigns ShapedRecover adds on first activation, all switched off: Soft Reminder, Inventory Hold Alert and 10% Discount Offer. See Templates.

Stop Tracking

A bulk action that deletes a Shopping cart and stops tracking that shopper's visit for 2 days. See Stop Tracking one visit.

Suppression

ShapedRecover's list of unsubscribed addresses, kept as one-way hashes. A suppressed address is never emailed again. See What unsubscribing does.

Sweep

The background job that runs every 5 minutes: it marks carts abandoned or lost and sends the emails that are due. See The sweep.

T

Test email

A campaign sent to an address you choose, filled with a sample shopper. It never creates a cart, a click or a coupon. See Test Email.

Token

The long random code in a recovery link that points at one cart and one email. Only a one-way fingerprint of it is stored. See A personal, private link.

Tracking

ShapedRecover capturing carts at checkout. It's switched on and off with Abandoned Tracking in Settings → General, and it's off when you first install. See The tracking switch.

Trigger

The kind of abandonment a campaign is for: Checkout abandoned or Cart abandoned. See Triggers & Timing.

U

Unsubscribe

The link in every recovery email that stops all reminders to that address, for good. It can't be removed from an email. See Unsubscribe & Privacy.

W

WP-Cron

WordPress's built-in scheduler, which only runs when someone visits your site. It starts Action Scheduler, so a quiet site can run jobs late. A server cron job fixes that. See Set Up SMTP.
