GDPR Consent Settings
The wording of the consent checkbox shoppers see at checkout.
Settings → GDPR Consent has one setting: the text beside the checkbox that lets shoppers agree to cart reminders. How the checkbox behaves (ticked by default, what unticking does, where it appears) is covered in Consent Checkbox.
Consent Checkbox Label
| Setting | What it does | Default | Range / options |
|---|---|---|---|
| Consent Checkbox Label | The text beside the checkout checkbox, ticked by default, that lets shoppers get cart reminders. See Change the label. | I agree to receive emails about my cart. | 1 to 200 characters of plain text |
A few things to know before you save:
- A link to your privacy policy follows the label automatically, as See our privacy policy., so don't add one yourself. It only appears when you've chosen a privacy page in WordPress's Settings → Privacy and that page is published. See What shoppers see.
- Plain text only. HTML tags are stripped when you save.
- The label can't be empty. An empty label, or one over 200 characters, stops the save with This value is not allowed.
- New wording applies to new consents. Each consent records the label the shopper actually saw, so carts already saved keep their original wording. See What's recorded.
- The default is translated into your site's language when a translation is available. Once you save your own wording, that's what every shopper sees.
Keep it short and say plainly what the shopper is agreeing to, for example "Email me a reminder if I don't finish my order."

Selling into the EU or UK?
Rewording the label doesn't change the fact that the box starts ticked. A pre-ticked box may not count as valid consent under the GDPR. See Ticked by default.
